Update 0.21


Hello! It's been way too long since the last update!

That doesn't mean I stopped working on the game, I've just been busy with lots of stuff that happened in the last year. Changed jobs, moved to a new apartment, that sort of thing.

Regardless, I've finished a new update. Keep in mind though that there is still a long road ahead and this is only a work in progress. You'll find the download after the list of changes. You might have to scroll a bit.

Changelog

Equipment system

  • Clothing items now have "styles": casual, formal, sporty, etc.
  • New wardrobe menu allows to change clothing, shows gear description, stats and styles.
  • Styles can affect gameplay, for example training at the gym requires a few "sporty" items.
  • There's a "quick change" option, it picks random clothes in the style you want for you.
  • Fixed a bug when drag and dropping equipment to slots.

Attributes

  • Implemented character attributes.
  • Fitness improves stamina usage.
  • Intelligence makes puzzles easier.
  • Dexterity makes unlocking safes easier.
  • Initial stats can be adjusted on character creation and increased during the game.

Possession spell changes

  • Added new possession scenes.
  • Possession now requires you to wear something that belongs to the target. (Might remove this requirement later, for now I wanted to prevent possession of characters who don't have possession scenes.)
  • Added items for characters that do have content and could be possessed before.
  • Fixed a bug where control wouldn't return to MC when a possession finished.
  • Fixed a bug where possessing a moving NPC would get you stuck.

Locations

  • Hotel
    • Implemented cleaning mini-game prototype.
  • Gym (new location)
    • You can train to raise fitness stat and get temporary buffs.
    • You can change clothes at the lockers, and steal stuff from other people's lockers.
  • Salon (new location)
    • You can change hair style.
  • Beach (new location)
    • Not much to do yet, but I have a minigame planned.

Interface

  • Journal is now divided into quests and it tracks which have been completed.
  • Status menu shows active status effects.
  • Improved spells menu, show spell description, add shortcuts.
  • Added "unstuck" button.
  • Pressing `Esc` to show the game menu now pauses the game.
  • Added support for emojis in dialogue and text boxes.
  • Pressing `Alt` will highlight all interactive elements in the current location.
  • Fixed blurry font rendering in tooltips.
  • Fixed menu background not rendering correctly in HTML build.
  • Fixed zoom level getting reset when changing maps.
  • Added a form to report bugs.
  • Added a form to give feedback.
  • Cheats menu.
    • Moved to a separate tab, can be opened with a shortcut (`F12`).
    • Added shortcuts to common options and locations.
  • Settings.
    • Added a CRT effect that makes the game look more retro.
    • Added a setting to disable walking grid snapping.
  • Android version (experimental)
  • Added an Android build.
  • Added "large text" setting to make menus easier to navigate in small phone screens.

Save system

  • Fixed an issue where some events were not saved.
  • Fixed an issue that caused saved status effects to reset.
  • Saves are now stored in a new entry instead of overwriting old saves.
  • Added screen to list all saves and delete/export individual ones.

Dialogue improvements

  • Structural changes to simplify writing dialogue variations based on attributes, clothes, corruption, etc.
  • A few NPCs now have different dialogue options based on who's talking to them. So if you possess someone they won't say the exact same thing as if you were MC.
  • Dialogue that has been seen before is shown in grey, and you can fast forward it with `Tab`.

  • Implemented locked doors that require having key in the inventory to open.
  • Added bus stops, they allow fast travel between stops for a few credits.
  • Added ATM machine, can be used to deposit/withdraw credits.
  • Added some logic to allow day/night specific events.
  • Added more hairstyles.
  • Added shift key to sprint.
